What happens if my meal slot is unavailable?

If a meal slot is unavailable, it is because the maximum capacity has been reached for that slot.

This means that the dining hall can not accommodate any more students during that time period, and you will have to choose a different slot. There are sufficient slots given the capacity of the dining hall to give everyone an opportunity to take their meal.
